Job description
Purpose of position

Strategy Unit is responsible for ensuring that the strategic vision is fulfilled across the UK. It devises influencing and campaigning strategies and supports services to implement evidence-based models, measure impact and support product and market development.

The Research & Evaluation Intern will support the work of the Strategy Unit by assisting with the delivery and dissemination of up-to-date and relevant information on evidence-informed practice to staff in Children's Services and other relevant departments.

As this is a volunteer role there are no set hours and responsibilities and you will be free to come and go as you wish. Volunteers will receive reimbursement of reasonable out-of-pocket expenses and payment of such expenses


Key responsibilities

Undertaking literature searches and reviews

Preparing written briefings on topics and areas of practice relating to services

Assisting with analysis of external policy/research publications e.g. Government statistics; reports from political parties; other organisations

Assisting with research and evaluation projects at various stages of completion, including data collection, data analysis, and report drafting

Working cooperatively with other departments  

Attending external meetings and seminars and reporting back

Contributing to the Strategy Unit's team activities and meetings


Person requirements
Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods (essential)

Clear, concise and accurate writing, including experience of writing literature reviews (essential)

Good communication and interpersonal skills (essential)

Ability to work as part of a team (essential)

Ability to gather and interpret data from research and policy (essential) and extract its implications for policy and practice (with training and support)

Good organisational and time management skills (essential)

Knowledge of, or strong interest in, practice or policy issues affecting children, young people and families (desirable)
