Welcome to Britain. Let's do the calculations on refugee costs

Welcome to Britain: Let's do the calculations on refugee costs.

I have recently heard that Job Centre Plus are not only going to continue to 'mainstream' refugee customers but also are not even going to provide their advisers with guidelines or information on the specific barriers that refugees face in the UK jobs market.

This is shocking when the evidence is clearly there.

70% of refugees experience longterm unemployment. That is expensive - to them and to the UK.

There is growing evidence on:

Discrimination about permission to work
Discrimination about being a refugee
CV gaps caused by long waits for the Home Office to decide on Refugee Status
Multiple issues about finding housing, health issues caused by torture and imprisonment overseas,  schooling for children who are learning English, depression...

Massive social exclusion
Massive economic exclusion

No cover by the Equality Act 2010
No services by Job Centre Plus
No services by the Home Office

How much does it cost to maintain this long-term exclusion?

Wouldn't value for money be realised by providing services like Transitions in order for refugees to return to work and pay taxes.  80% of our 2011 clients moved into skilled work and are now paying tax. Do the calculations......
