What a relief...JCP unpaid work programme found illegal

What a relief that 3 judges have found that the regulations for the Government's back-to-work programmes are flawed and that Jobcentre Plus can no longer force customers to do unpaid work or cut their benefits.   Cut benefits will have to be repaid.

This programme was embarrassing for we employment professionals. Though good for the
income of those private companies delivering these 'services'.  I have seen no evidence of quality or of opportunities for customers to provide feedback. More importantly, it humiliated jobseekers in its assumption that customers weren't trying hard enough  - a poor-law type punishment for being out of work.  I was truly shocked when I started to hear about it from clients.

The Government is going to appeal..  how embarrassing again.  Can someone tell Employment Minister Mark Hoban that an investment in quality careers guidance, a requirement for at least level 3 advice qualifications for any adviser working with Jobcentre customers,  legislation for adult paid internships at level 4 and above and some respect for customers will probably help.
